We spent some time exploring the MBK and Paragon Malls. The MBK Center is more of a combination market and mall -- we really enjoyed shopping here.
The Paragon was more upscale. The food court in the MBK Center offered a free Thai iced tea to tourists so we went to check it out. You are assigned a card at the entrance to the food court, it is scanned with each item you purchase and then you pay the bill on the way out. Very efficient! We enjoyed our free iced tea and then indulged in a Chang Beer and dish of pork noodles.
At the Paragon Mall, we stopped at another thai food court. We ordered a papaya and mango salad. The proprietor asked us if we wanted it spicy. Before Scott could stop me, I said yes (when in Rome...). It was awesome, tear-inducingly awesome. I feel like we finally got a taste of something that was truly Thai hot rather than calibrated to a western pallet. Unfortunately, it was a little too much for Scott so I ate most of the salads myself. My lips were satisfyingly on fire afterward.

There was even a string trio serenading diners in the food court.
