Hold on to your Hats!

We took a taxi from the airport to the city.  The first thing I noticed about cabs in Bangkok is that they don't have seat belts in the backseat.  Fortunately, we didn't have to take a taxi on too many occasions.  We found ourselves in a rather distressing traffic jam when we got off the highway.  Nothing seemed to be moving.  Fortunately, it turns out that we were only a few blocks from our hotel so we got through it in less time than expected.  The Pathumwan Princess Hotel is connected to the MBK shopping center.  Interestingly, there were metal detectors and security at all the entrances.  This seemed to be mainly for show.  They checked our bags and gave us a casual once over on our first time into the hotel.  Every other time that we passed through a metal detector into one of the malls, we passed right through, bags and all, without even stopping.

Our room was comfortable and quirky. There was a window with an electronic shade between the bedroom and bathroom.
