Jim Thompson is credited with revitalizing the Thai silk trade in the 1950s. An American veteran of World War II, he made a home for himself in Bangkok. He died in a shroud of mystery after several years in the country. He took a vacation trekking through the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia and never returned. His body was never recovered and no one knows for sure what happened to him. Today, tours of his home are offered. It's a bit of an oasis just steps away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Bangkok. We were able to walk to the house from our hotel.
We walked along the canal at the back of Jim Thompson's house to get back to our hotel. The canals were pretty interesting. River taxis and other boats ply the canal and hair raising speeds leaving a huge wavy wake. It was definitely fun to watch from the shore and we somehow managed to avoid getting splashed.
